It’s hard to watch “Charlie Bartlett” and not think of Ferris Bueller.
The star of this new-to-DVD dramedy and Ferris have plenty in common – mass teenager appeal and buck-the-system bona fides – but come from starkly different generations. Not sure how many teens were popping pills back in the ’80s, or at least opening talked about doing that.
“Charlie Bartlett” tries to be the movie for today’s addled high schoolers but doesn’t come anywhere near the greatness that is “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
My Pop Matters review goes into more detail about this unconventional teen comedy.
