Wishin’ for a new blacklist

Just catching up on this one, but it’s too interesting not to report.

Hollywood Elsewhere’s Jeffrey Wells, who carries clout in Internet movie circles, had this to say about a Jon Voight column in The Washington Times that attacked Sen. Barack Obama. (hat tip: Power Line)

“[I]t’s only natural that industry-based Obama supporters will henceforth regard him askance. Honestly? If I were a producer and I had to make a casting decision about hiring Voight or some older actor who hadn’t pissed me off with an idiotic Washington Times op-ed piece, I might very well say to myself, “Voight? Let him eat cake.”

So … one of the very few outspoken conservative actors shouldn’t be hired, in Wells’ opinion? Let freedom ring, eh?

I started reading Wells’ web site a few months back, but the site’s politics are as one-sided as they are ugly. And so, sadly, is too much of what Wells has to say. Check out just how open his mind is. Hollywood cranks out about 100-1 pro-liberal films, and he can’t bear the thought of a conservative flick heading our way. Sad.

UPDATE: Andrew Breitbart takes on those who think conservative actors should pay the price for yesterday’s blacklist.

To a certain extent, Welles is right. You can’t spend all your time insulting and offending the values of the people who allow you to make a living, and expect to keep working. Now, If only Hollywood would realize that it’s the general audience which allows them to make a living…

They don’t realize it, jic, and I suspect they won’t for quite some time.
