Wavering about buying a big screen TV and a stereo to match? The 2004 epic “House of Flying Daggers” will all but make the decision for you.
I’m arrived late to the modern age of sweeping Eastern spectacles, but “Daggers” made me an instant convert. An opening sequence dubbed the “echo game,” in which our heroine (Zhang Ziyi) performs a ritualistic dance with a series of drums, left me speechless. And several subsequent sequences build on that sense of awe and wonder.
The story isn’t a model of simplicity, but the sights and sounds are too mesmerizing to nitpick.
My original Washington Times review can barely contain my enthusiasm for the movie. Find the biggest flat screen in your neighborhood and check it out.

This is such a beautiful film. Aren’t each of the stories told with different color themes? Been a while since I’ve seen it, but I remember being impressed!
Linda, when I bought my 40 inch TV “Daggers” was the first movie I wanted to watch on it … breathtaking. But the film demands a big-as-you-can-afford screen. Sadly my 40 inch set doesn’t do it proper justice.
