Has it really been 22 years since Ferris Bueller took his eventful day off?
Yup. And since then star Matthew Broderick has found stardom on Broadway, wedded Sarah Jessica Parker and proved he had no intention of being left behind in an ’80s time warp.
But what has Broderick done for us lately?
If you’ve seen his 2006 Christmas movie “Deck the Halls,” the answer is — inspire regurgitation. It made “Christmas with the Kranks” seem like “Miracle on 34th Street.”
It’s why it’s so good to see Broderick back in form in “Finding Amanda,” a new dramedy hitting DVD shelves Sept. 16. I’ll post my review later this week, but it’s Broderick’s best screen performance in years.
UPDATE: The well read Mad Minerva emailed me some breaking “Ferris” news — Bueller goes academic! An upcoming conference has a paper about “Ferris Bueller” and ancient Greek tragedy – the abstract says it all.

Best performance in years…?
I guess that would mean it’s his best performance.
I have always considered him an awful actor, but he has an endearing quality so I forgive him.
Watch “Ferris” again. He’s flat-out great in it. And other performances, like his work in “Election” are under-the-radar excellent.
True, when he’s off his game he looks pretty bad.
Although I constantly call him “Ferris”, he was truly great in a lot of movies after FBDO.
Ferris Bueller is the best character invented in the 1980’s. Good on Broderick for working his rear off to being more than a one-hit-wonder.
If Ferris ISN’T the best character to come out of the ’80s, I’d like to see who is … a film that actually grows in greatness every time you watch it.
What a great flick. Indeed, I’d say Ferris is to the 80s what Dirty Harry is to the 70s … or Ray Liotta’s Henry Hill is to the 90s …
