You would think my parents would realize the actors they grew up watching have aged along with them.
My Dad is 70, and my Mom is 66, but they can be pretty critical about how some actors of their generation look today.
And I suspect their peers are just as harsh.
I remember watching a slight comedy called “Boynton Beach Club” a while ago with a much older crowd. The film follows the dating travails of a 60-something group of friends in Florida. The cast, including Brenda Vaccaro, Sally Kellerman and Joseph Bologna, have been working in Hollywood for decades. And it shows.
Putting aside the fact that the level of chatter was remarkably high, the comments I heard were curious - and unexpected.
Whenever a familiar face came on screen, I’d hear whispers about their appearance.
“Oooh, she looks terrible,” they’d say, or some other cutting remark.
Getting old stinks. Doing it in front of audiences who watched you when you were young and beautiful must make the process even harder.
