Haggis gets political — again

Oscar-winning director Paul Haggis wants the government to shut down Guantanamo Bay.

And his political science bona fides are what, precisely?

The man who gave us the overrated “Crash” but also helped pen the great “Casino Royale,” will join a national tour this week which brings a life-sized Gitmo cell replica across the country. He’ll be joined by Amnesty International and actor Mark Ruffalo, an actor who held so much promise initially but hasn’t turned in a great performance in some time.

The outspoken Haggis most recently gave us the politically charged dud “In the Valley of Elah.”

Tour visitors can record a 30-second reaction to Gitmo while on site.

For the life of me, I still can’t fathom exactly what the outrage is over Gitmo. Where are we supposed to put the terrorists we capture, in the LA county jail? I suggest that we build a special pen for them in Beverly Hills, see what kind of response that gets from the Hollywood left.

“In the Valley of Elah” was so vile. Only in America can one make a film so vilifying the nation’s soldiers.

The folks against Gitmo don’t shed a tear when we release folks from there and we find them out on the battlefield, again, trying to kill us/civilians. That doesn’t give them pause, does it?

Their response would be that they were just poor, innocent, peace loving people until the evil U.S.A. put them in Gitmo.

They should also bring along pictures from 9/11, the ones you don’t see published anywhere in the U.S.A. The ones that show people jumping or falling from the buildings,or how about the video of the firemen under a large overhang of one of the buildings? You can hear loud thumps and bangs hitting the roof, assumed at first to be debris but turned out to be people.

Haggis is a pr#$%^

Thanks for the self-censor, Opus!

I don’t agree with closing Gitmo, but I can see why there’s two sides to that debate. What I can’t see is how Haggis and his buds never mention just how twisted and evil the inmates are, or the fact that many are released and start a-killing anew.

If you don’t speak about these issues, I can’t respect your take on the matter.

I really like Haggis.

Of course, I’m talking about the giant Scottish oatmeal and organ meat sausage.

I’m so sick of self-loathing, self-hating Americans. For some reason it is “cool” to hate ourselves for being what we were born, Americans.

It’s actually a very sad reflection on our current culture.

James Frazier has made a very good point! Where are we going to put them? It’s so easy for these Hollywood types to sit in their comfortable mansions in the 90210 district and wag their fingers and heads about how Gitmo is just “so mean.” Perhaps they’d like to fund a nice little resort for these guys complete with a vegan menu and day spa.

Haggis is Canadian.

The hack, not the sausage.

oh, well then, he doesn’t have to hate himself.
