I love New York … to a point

September 28, 2008

Never thought I’d write this, but I’m getting sick of seeing films set in New York City.

Sure, the Big Apple never sleeps, and if you can make it there you can make it anywhere …

Blah, blah blah.

I was born in the Bronx and grew up on Long Island, and I love the Yankees as much as movies. But it just seems lazy to set virtually every other movie in Manhattan.

Just got back from seeing “The Women ” — yes, Mrs. WWTW was in charge of film selection this time — and was bored by the same ol’ New York settings.

There’s a whole country out there to explore … let’s start exploring it on screen.

Amen!!! Other cities have gone through phases of popularity. Wasen’t a handful of 90’s movies filmed in Seattle?

I really liked the fact “Baby Mamma” was set in Philly - they could have easily set it in New York.

I think they should film a movie in Albuquerque, NM - there’s great architecture, beautiful scenery and a really strange mixture of people.

How come more movies aren’t set in Denver? The only one I can think of off the top of my head is “Things to do in Denver when your Dead” and if I remember correctly there were only a few scenes actually shot in Denver.

To hear it from New Yorker’s you’d think that city never got any attention.
