Is there a movie genre more in need of an overhaul than the romantic comedy, or rom-com to faux hipsters like me?
The formula is just so darn … formulaic. Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl. Boy and girl fight. Boy and girl kiss at altar.
Even the recent chick flick “The Women” followed this boilerplate, even if the boy in question was actually Meg Ryan (easy now, it’s not what you think).
It’s why anticipation is, ahem, rising for “Zack and Miri Make a Porno,” Kevin Smith’s latest anti-rom-com.
Saw the film yesterday and it sure does shake up the formula. Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks star as platonic pals who decide to shoot and star in an adult film to pay the bills (I’ll post my review when it opens – Oct. 31).
Rom-coms may never be the same again.

Die, romantic comedies, die!
