Is anyone else nauseated by the “Vote or else!” style movement starring various actors/celebrities/do gooders?
Who in their right mind doesn’t know it’s a good thing to vote?
But no … we keep getting insipid videos by A and B-list stars alike imploring us to vote in the most condescending fashion (see below).
The latest assault just came in the mail. My Entertainment Weekly mag has an ad from declareyourself.com.
The ad states - “Only you can silence yourself” - and features a teary-eyed Jessica Alba wearing a Hannibal Lecter-style mask over her mouth.
Alba should be apologizing for “The Love Guru” and “Good Luck Chuck” rather than posing for such nonsense.
*note: The Declare Yourself Web site serves up another image of Alba, this time looking all S&M with black tape over her mouth and upper body.

I think that somebody has just won a bet that he could convince Jessica Alba to do a BDSM photo shoot.

Wow. Christian. They had me at “don’t vote.” And then … they lost me.
How insipid. They are actually encouraging people who are so apathetic and uninformed that they don’t even know that you must register to vote first to help determine the future — a leftist future, of course.

Yeah, Dr. Zaius, the underlying theme here is that you know every one of these actors is voting for Sen. Obama. So it’s like a veiled campaign ad.
I’d almost forgive it all … if it weren’t so patronizing.

I remember when I finally turned 18, couldn’t wait to vote. (In time to vote for Ronald Reagan in ‘84) …. today, it seems people feel either like it doesn’t matter, or they just don’t care about politics.
This election feels different, lots of new voters. Whatever it takes, I don’t have a problem with encouraging folks to get off their butts and do more than wear a sticker … get out a vote, dammit.
If it takes something unusual to get the kids into the voting booth and overcome that apprehension of trying something new, I don’t mind it.
