Harrison Ford might sign up for another “Indiana Jones” sequel - if the script is good enough.
Yeah, that “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” script really wowed audiences over the summer.
It’s one of an actor’s laziest interview lines, and Ford gave it recently to Moviefone. Here’s the exact quote:
“It would have to do with the quality of the script that I read, if and when we decide to go forward.”
Look. I love Ford. Grew up with him in all the iconic movies of my childhood. But I wish he would come out and say “Crystal Skull” was a nice try, but I wouldn’t mind leaving the franchise on a higher note.
That would generate honest excitement over a new “Indy.” That and keeping George Lucas a 1,000 yards away from the set at all times.
(Photo: Harrison Ford proved he’s still got in “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” - even if the movie proved lackluster.)

I’m starting to think that “quality of the script” is code for “number of zeroes on the paycheck”

The only good Indy film was the first one, all the others IMHO always played with a wink and anod with inside jokes and an attempt to make them funny. Characters that were serious, intelligent adults in Raiders were given lobotmies in the sequels and used as comedy relief. It’s as if they took every serious or dangerous scene and thought “how can we make this funny?”.
Raiders could have been released today and would be just as big a hit. If they have to make any more sequels they should pull a James Bond and reboot the entire franchise with Lucas ,Speilberg and Ford not allowed anywhere near the production.

Blackhawk — I’m not sure there’s a need for code here .. it’s all about the bucks. I don’t mind that if the talent behind a movie is generally young — gotta fill out those retirement accounts. But why are Spielberg, Ford and Lucas so eager to cash a check against their legacy?
Great point, Opus. I found the Sean Connery character in the third Indy to typify that har-har approach. The first movie is darn near perfect.

There’s a quote from Eric Roberts on the subject that I like, it seems more honest than what you get from many actors:

I’m just really sad that it looks as if Shia LaBeof is going to be the “new” Indy. Ugh. Hang me with a fake snake.

We need a new Indy like we need a new … Star Trek … oh, wait.
Opus — you’re passionate, not negative. Keep on posting!

You know who would be a better “new Indy?” Macaulay Caulkin!!
