The latest Bond adventure, “Quantum of Solace,” has 007 battling a fiend who wants to monkey with the world’s natural resources.
He also happens to be a highly regarded environmentalist.
What? He’s not a Euro-trash villain? A fundamentalist killer?
Nope. He’s a tree hugger gone bad. His last name is Greene, for Pete’s sake.
Is this a sign that Hollywood, which keeps a keen eye on the international market (particularly with Bond films), is souring on the green movement?
Too soon to tell. But it’s a refreshing choice of villain if only because it comes straight out of the blue.
Expect the WWTW review of “Quantum of Solace” this Friday.

Considering the lead time in takes to write and make a film, this thing was written and made just as the movement began to ramp up, so I doubt there’s any change of heart.

made just as the movement began to ramp up
That would be about 1993 then.

I’m not as well versed in international matters as I should be, but I think there’s been a bit of movement against the green juggernaut overseas for the past few years.

The green/socialist movement in the U.S. didn’t really ramp up or mainstream until a couple years ago. If you want to go back in time then you could drag it all the way back to the hippy dippy 60’s or the 19th century with John Muir.
