Do we still need James Bond?

Do we still need James Bond?

November 13, 2008

That’s the question I had before Daniel Craig’s near-brilliant “Casino Royale.”

And it’s on my mind again, and I’m sure I’m not alone.

Strip the gadgets, pithy one-liners and tuxedos away from Bond and what do you have?

“Quantum of Solace,” that’s what. But is “QoS” so much different than the “Bourne” films, or any other action franchise, for that matter? Do Bond Girls still have pop culture cache? When was the last time a Bond Girl appearance launched a major career?

Will post my review tomorrow.

Sure we need James Bond that’s like asking if we need Santa Claus or the Easter Bunny.

Beyond that , neither Bond or Bourne are simply action films, what they fight for or against are two different things.

Bond- There are evil people in the world and he’s trying to save us.
Bourne- We are evil and we’re trying to kill him.
Plus one is played by Mutt Demon and one isn’t.
