What’s a blogger meme? Oh, now I know.
WWTW wants to embrace web friends, old and new. So here goes — my A-Z alphabet meme. Here’s where it all began as well as the rules of the game. I added a twist to the meme. Each letter sparks my word association skills — with every letter corresponding to something movie related, natch.
Please to enjoy:
“Attica! Attica!” – What Sonny cries out during the great bank heist flick “Dog Day Afternoon”
“Broadway Danny Rose” – Balloon folding acts and aging crooners … one of Woody’s best films.
“The Chocolate War” – Former “Back to School” star Keith Gordon brought us this utterly unconventional school flick.
“Dave” – When the movie studios were smart enough to cast Kevin Kline in starring roles.
“Ernest” movies – I’m proud to say I’ve never watched one of them.
“Finding Forrester” – I love imitating Sean Connery saying Forrester’s name. It’s the one impression almost anyone can pull off.
“Gandhi” – Saw it during a school field trip. If memory serves, it’s about 8 hours long.
“Haunted Honeymoon” – Gene Wilder’s career comes screeching to a halt.
“Igby Goes Down” – The epitome of a sleeper. Smart, sophisticated and boasting a killer cast.
Johnny Depp – The coolest actor on the planet … and only a recent sellout (“Pirates 4??”)
“Karate Kid” – The upcoming remake is but another nail in the coffin of my childhood.
“Logan’s Run” – In a Logan world I’d be dead for 10 years.
The Monkees – Even a diehard Monkees fan like me couldn’t stomach their cinematic effort – 1968’s “Head.”
“Nobody’s Fool – An older Paul Newman showing the young punks how it’s done.
“Octopussy” – Sometimes Bond movies go a bit too far in the name game.
“Problem Child” – The first time a movie trailer really, truly let me down. Lesson learned.
“Q” – A prime example of hype over substance dating back to 1982. Would love to watch again with fresh, adult eyes.
“Raising Arizona – The only “R” movie name that matters to me.
“Star Wars” – The single biggest reason why I love movies so much.
“Transformers” – The prototype for future blockbusters. And I don’t mean that in a good way. Loud, noisy, incomprehensible. Yet tons of people love it. Not me.
“U-Turn” – The last Oliver Stone movie that intrigued me.
“V for Vendetta” – Portman shaves head, but a mask-wearing Hugo Weaving makes the bigger statement.
“The World According to Garp” – Great book. Great movie. Just different. And Robin Williams shows he’s more than just Mork.
“X-Men” – An unsung franchise. Not as fun as “Spider-Man,” not as dark as the Batman features. Still grand entertainment with a socially relevant subtext. Or is that text?
“Young Frankenstein” – “What knockers!” “Give him a said-a-give?” Wish all movies were so quotable.
“Zoolander” – Just can’t bring myself to watch it, even knowing Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson show up.

Dennis hopper aka Frank Booth Blue Velvet (1986)
They should have made that into a PBR TV ad!
i agree you can’t even pay for an endorsement like that its simple and to the point.
Christian, Zoolander is worth it for the gasoline fight in the first, oh, 15 minutes of the show. After that, feel free to do laundry or make a sandwich or something.
I agree with you about U-Turn. What a movie! I need to add that one to the Netflix queue, I think.
I just knew Zoolander was going to be your Z, not too many other choices there (maybe Zhivago, Doctor). I haven’t seen it either – I even pass it by on cable.
What about Zardoz?
Never saw that one either (or heard of it). Maybe I should just check out the Z list at IMDB. Is that cheating?
It’s only cheating if you get caught.
You’ve never heard of Zardoz? You’re lucky. It’s possibly the worst major science fiction movie of all time.
On a side note: can I just tell you (that in addition to never hearing of Zardoz) how much I love IMDB? It is of the best things about this here internet thingy. It has rendered the feeling of watching something and thinking “Now where have I seen them before?” and never finding out (or hoping that the increasingly erratic and glitch-filled computer that sits on my shoulders, finally comes through) obsolete. 5 Stars and Kudos to IMDB!!!!
Couldn’t agree more … wish I had a nickel for the amount of times I visit IMDB during each day. And from the best I can tell the info they present is accurate (dates of movies, spelling of names, etc)
The IMDb is reasonably accurate, but they depend heavily on reader submissions and don’t seem to fact-check much (I doubt that they have the resources to). I trust them infinitely more than I do Wikipedia, but I’m not going to get rid of my film reference books anytime soon.
Actually for “Z” the choices are endless ‘zombie lake’, zombi, zombi 2,zombi 3,zombi 4, pretty much any zombie movie made in italy would work.
