When I was young I used to laugh my little head off at Benny Hill — sometimes before the British funny man said a word.
I was ready to laugh … and I didn’t need something like an actual joke to set me off.
That memory rushed back to me during the screening of “Twilight” last night (my official review runs at WWTW Friday).
The crowd consisted primarily of teenage girls – the demographic which made the “Twilight” books a phenomena. They squealed with anticipation as the film started.
Later, when the end credits started to roll, they were silent.
A few random folks offered up some applause. Seconds passed. Then, the squealing and cries began. It’s almost like they were expected to squeal with delight, and when it didn’t happen organically they decided to do it anyway.
Hmmmm.
