Top 5 reasons to be thankful — The Hollywood Edition

I’ll let the more sober minds among us give thanks for the truly important blessings in our lives.
Instead, I’ll wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving by trotting out the Top 5 reasons I’m thankful to be a movie critic at this particular moment.
The Coen brothers: Joel and Ethan Coen are in their prime, and that means every one of their movies is an Event, something to look forward to and savor. Even if they miss their mark now and again.
Superhero flicks: It took some fits and starts, but Hollywood seems to have figured out how to bring our favorite superheroes to glorious life.
Technology: So much ground to cover here, but let’s run through the basics – HDTV, downloading movies, young auteurs editing their films on their laptops, IMAX, etc. What a time to be a movie buff.
The Young Guns: Worried where the next great films will come from? Look no further than the young, fertile minds of these writer/directors — Rian Johnson (“The Brothers Bloom”), Luke Eberl (“Choose Connor”) and Greg Mclean (“Rogue”).
The Old Timers: I didn’t care much for “Changeling,” but Clint Eastwood keeps swinging for the fences. Here’s a toast to Clint, Morgan Freeman, Dustin Hoffman and other aging actors who refuse to gently into that good night.
