Whaddaya gotta do to get respect in Hollywood these days?
Catherine Hardwicke, the director of the smash hit “Twilight,” won’t be directing the film’s sequel, “New Moon.”
But director and studio are playing nice about it.
Check out the joint release today on the subject:
“I am sorry that due to timing I will not have the opportunity to direct NEW MOON,” said Hardwicke. “Directing TWILIGHT has been one of the great experiences of my life, and I am grateful to the fans for their passionate support of the film. I wish everyone at Summit the best with the sequel– it is a great story.”
We’re told Summit, the studio behind the franchise, wants to release the next film at the end of 2009 or early 2010, but that “does not work with Ms. Hardwicke’s required prep time to bring her vision of the film to the big screen.”
Hardwicke gets points for playing nice on this decision, and for steering the film adaptation into the box office winner’s circle.
Now, if only she made a better film …
UPDATE: Then again, maybe the split wasn’t so amicable …
