Denver movie fans have a new IMAX theater to call their own at the stroke of midnight Friday.
The AMC Orchard 12 in Westminster, Colo. will screen “The Day the Earth Stood Still” at 12:01 a.m. Friday in its new IMAX theater.
IMAX screens, for the uninitiated, offer brilliant imagery, laser-aligned digital sound and an immersive experience traditional screens can’t match.
Saw “The Dark Knight” at an IMAX screen last summer and the difference was startling. Some “Knight” scenes were shot specifically for IMAX theaters, so several key sequences utilized the entire IMAX screen.
IMAX and 3-D represent the movie industry’s better hopes for competing with flat-screen television sets.
