Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” was a box office hit by all accounts.

Tough to argue with a film that hauls in $177 million, right?

Yet it’s rocketing onto DVD Feb. 6, roughly three months after its Nov. 7, 2008 debut.

The window between theatrical and DVD releases keeps shrinking, and it doesn’t seem to matter if a film does well, or bombs, at the box office.

Some films still take their sweet time hitting DVD shelves, but the rapid release of “Mad2″ shows that even a bona fide success will find its way home sooner than later.

Will that convince parents to make their kiddies wait until a movie his the home market rather than taking them to see it theatrically? That’s the million dollar question, one which should be on the minds of most major studios.
