The 3-D experience is on the verge of breaking through – for real this time.
But it won’t happen without the help of two key genres — kiddie flicks and horror movies.
Looks like the kiddie flick arena may be covered, what with the success of “Meet the Robinsons” and future can’t misses like “Up” and the new “ice Age” sequel.
But this weekend will tell movie studios plenty about the power of 3-D technology.
“My Bloody Valentine 3D,” the remake of the 1981 slasher film, needs to make more coin than the standard blood ‘n guts film to justify the extra dimension.
Spoke to a horror film producer a while ago, and he was very high on how 3-D will boost the horror genre.
But most critics weren’t allowed to peek at the new “Valentine,” so I can’t say if all the gore coming your way is worth ducking.

I’m gonna go see this tomorrow. my wife has to go to a baby shower and she has no interest in seeing this film so i figured that would be a perfect time to go see it. being a big horror fan i have always liked the original as a guilty pleasure. i was too young when friday the 13th 3-D came out and i have always thought the horror genre could greatly take advantage of 3-D. i don’t expect the film to be great but it should be a fun experience.
Please check back in with your thoughts on the film, Ronn. Very curious to see how the 3-D effects enhance the experience.
So i went and saw MBV 3D yesterday with a friend and this was both of ours first foray into digital 3D so we did not know what to expect. the first thing that surprised us was that the theatre was virtually sold out by time the movie started. The 3D experience was amazing. From the opening logo of Lionsgate with all the gears it really jumped out at you. The film itself was a lot better than what i was expecting it had a real solid cast my favorite being Tom Atkins as the older sheriff i loved Atkins in Carpenter’s ‘The Fog’ and one of my all time favorite horror films the underrated film from 1986 ‘Night of the Creeps’. there’s a scene in the film with a girl totally nude except for high heels and seeing that in 3D is something that everyone needs to experience. the thing that i liked about the movie was that it was unapologetically R rated and it went all out which is refreshing to see in a mainstream horror film which you don’t see to much of with all of the PG-13 horror films these days. the film is not going to change your life but is a good horror film and hopefully it is successful and we get more horror films in 3d its hard to imagine having more fun at the movies
Thanks for sharing your experience … now, I wanna go see it!
