Top 5 Movie Presidents

Top 5 Movie Presidents

In honor of President Barack Obama’s historic inauguration (yes, the term is exhausted, but still accurate), here’s my take on the best movie presidents … and let me know which films have your vote in this category.

  1. Harrison Ford in “Air Force One” - “Get off my plane!” Who doesn’t love a Commander in Chief with cojones?
  2. Bruce Greenwood in “Thirteen Days” – This political gem got ignored during its theatrical release. A shame, really. Greenwood is top notch as the primo Kennedy.
  3. Kevin Kline in “Dave” – Kline can do no wrong in my eyes.
  4. Michael Douglas in “The American President” – Aaron Sorkin’s idealized liberal POTUS before he wrote “The West Wing.” Put politics aside – it’s a charmer of a love story even if Douglas bear hugs the ACLU in the film’s final moments.
  5. Jack Nicholson in “Mars Attacks!” – Why doesn’t this movie get more love? Nicholson is just one reason why “Mars” is an absolute hoot.

President Arnold Schwarzenegger (Harry Shearer) – “The Simpsons Movie” (2007)…maybe the best president in a movie.
