‘My Bloody Valentine 3D’ – Miner with a pickax to grind

‘My Bloody Valentine 3D’ – Miner with a pickax to grind

Lessons learned from watching “My Bloody Valentine 3D”

  • Either Elvis Costello, or the Buddy Holly estate, inspired the look of the newfangled 3-D glasses.
  • Audiences must pony up $2.50 extra for the luxury of watching a movie that reaches out to your seat. No wonder some studios are so eager about the rise of 3-D technology.
  • The first, second and third time something sharp and sinister points directly at you, it’s a blast. After that, not so much.

  • Horror movies typically feature stupid heroes or heroines. Every character in the new “Valentine” could qualify for special funding based on their analytical skills.
  • The pickax is a mighty fine weapon for a serial killer. Yes, indeed.
  • Any movie released before 1985 is now considered a “classic.”
  • Not only are the characters in “Valentine” mentally challenged, the film’s creators think we are, too. One early scene movies the story forward by 10 years, which we know because a news narrator says so. Seconds later, a message flashes on the screen – “10 Years Later.”
  • Three-dimensional movie going, despite the high tech improvements and comfortable nerd glasses, will not become mainstream. The experience is too disorienting, and the films made expressly for 3D viewing too silly to attract a wide swath of the viewing public.

House of Wax and Bowana Devil were 3Ders years ago. Kids are the only ones that like the glasses. They have never gotten any better over the years. I’m surprised anyone would even try making them when we have come so far with movies, reality and technology, why go backwards?

Oddly enough, I remember the original, I saw it expecting typical slasher crapola … I might have been on a date or something … what’s funny is that I rember the original as really, really scary, a very well done horror flick … I’ve never seen it again, but as I recall it was very frightening.
