Call me Ms. Streisand

Call me Ms. Streisand

We’ve all heard stories about Barbra Streisand’s “difficult” behavior … google ‘Babs’ and hear tales of her demanding to be shot from certain angles and how she requested a white lapel microphone on the set of “The Oprah Winfrey” show.

I’m guessing some of these stories belong in the gossip file, or even the trash. Can’t believe everything you read.

But here’s an example of how the Oscar winner likes to be portrayed in a very specific way.

Tomorrow marks the re-release of “Yentl,” Streisand’s acclaimed 1983 drama casting her as a Jewish woman who pretends to be a man to further her spiritual education.

Or should we say Ms. Streisand?

The DVD box jacket includes highlights like: “Ms. Streisand’s Extended Cut of the Film … and deleted scenes from the private collection of Ms. Streisand …”

Can’t say I’ve ever seen a star referenced in such fashion on a DVD package. But then again, not everyone has an Oscar, a Tony, a Grammy and probably dozens of other awards to their credit.

Heck, she’s even a blogger.

A friend of mine acted in the dinner scene during which Nolte threatens someone’s violin. She was delighted that Striesand took two weeks to do that one scene.

In “The Prince of Tides.” Sorry.

They can call her whatever she wants. She can insist on being shot from whatever angle she wants and she can have whatever color microphone she wants. Fine by me.

When she tells working men and women to stop using clothes dryers and spend the time hanging the wash on the line like my grandmother used to do, then it’s obvious that she isn’t just your run of the mill Hollywood prima donna but has ascended into the rarefied ranks of the certified billionaire hypocritical lib-tards.

Yep, Babs is special.

She is apparently such a control freak that she had the laserdisc of “The Prince of Tides” recalled by The Criterion Collection to fix some minor errors. Here was the reason:

“According to an article in the “Los Angeles Times” (11 Dec 95), the new discs are not the same discs that were pressed a couple of years ago. The article also claims that Barbra Streisand corrected some “mistakes” and they repressed the discs to reflect these corrections. The article went on to say that the original pressings were dumped in a landfill, EXCEPT for a few copies that got out into the hands of collectors.
About 40 copies of the original version were given to Voyager employees as Christmas presents. Voyager couldn’t demand them back and so they became instant collector’s items.
As for the differences between old and new discs, briefly: the changes amounted to correcting several typographical errors in the supplements, fine-tuning the synching of certain sections of the commentary, and reorganizing a split-screen section in the supplement so that three versions of a scene would be shown with slightly different points of contrast. Otherwise the discs, including the transfer and cut of the film are identical.”

Great comments, all. I actually don’t mind her perfectionism … I’m sure it would bother me if I were a crew member on one of her shoots, but I respect anyone who genuinely wants to make a better movie/album/etc.

But her personal hypocrisy is another matter …
