It’s been years since Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan stepped down from their perch as Hollywood’s most endearing screen couple.
Enter Richard Gere and Diane Lane, an older couple (by Hollywood’s standards) who showered audiences with sparks in “Unfaithful.”
Their reteaming made perfect sense, as did casting their new film, “Nights in Rodanthe,” against the buttery backdrop of coastal North Carolina.
But “Rodanthe,” based on a novel by Nicholas Sparks and out this week on DVD, is a soggy romance that won’t light many fires on Valentine’s Day – or any other day, for that matter.
My Donne Tempo review tells the whole story. And for another viewpoint, check out Jacquie Kubin’s assessment of the film’s Blu-Ray edition.

I remember seeing the trailer for this, turning to my friend and asking, “What’s this? The Beaches of Madison County?”
