Is it any wonder Newsweek’s circulation keeps dropping?
Check out this fascinating Q&A with “Coraline” and “Push” star Dakota Fanning and you’ll see a small reason why.
Let’s check off the flaws:
- Inane questions? Yes.
- Little knowledge of the subject? No doubt.
- Wasting space with questions which mean nothing to reader. Yup.
- Faux chummy repartee? Mmm-hmm.
- Unnecessary follow-up questions? Of course.

Jebus. That was awful, like something out of People. I mean, I don’t like to cast aspersions on other interviewers, because lord knows I’m not perfect, but man…that was painful to read.
It gets worse every time I read it …
At least People will go for the fluff … but do it with style and purpose. This is like someone who got handed the assignment at the last minute and winged it. But heck, couldn’t he have winged it a little better?
And Fanning’s pretty bright for her age … no reason to treat her like a seven year old.
That’s true, you can go for fluff and only fluff and it doesn’t read like this. Ugh. Seriously, how did this make it to press?
Wow, this is heavy, heavy stuff here.
It’s obvious that the interviewer has no idea how to relate to teenagers, and has no knowledge of either movie.
