Want to see ‘Brothers at War’ in Colorado?

The new documentary “Brothers at War” stands apart from previous Iraq War docs.

You only need to read the name of one of the film’s producers to understand why – Gary Sinise.

The “CSI: New York” actor is a tireless promoter of soldiers’ causes, so simply attaching his name to “Brothers” means it won’t be another “Redacted” – a screed against U.S. soldiers from director Brian De Palma. It’s a safe bet the movie treats soldiers with the dignity they deserve.

But “Brothers” won’t be playing in every part of the country.

So a film fan in Littleton, Colo. created an online petition to convince the film’s distributors to find some Rocky Mountain theaters to show the movie.

The film’s web site offers its own ways film goers can bring the movie to their neck of the woods.

Spoke with Sinise a while back about one of his many pro-soldier projects. He refused to talk down his Hollywood peers for making movies that denigrate soldiers, or for their collective inability to travel overseas to entertain the troops as he so often does.

Lately, Sinise is lifting his self imposed gag on the subject. Few actors have more genuine moral authority on the subject than Sinise, although to be fair to De Palma he’s made no bones about his intentions regarding “Redacted.”

As a soldier getting ready for my third deployment to Iraq, I appreciate Mr. Sinise and all the other performers that have made time to come to Iraq and Afghanistan to entertain the troops. They didn’t have to do it, and every soldier I know appreciates the effort anyone makes to show that they care.

To the people like Mr. DePalma who have made motion pictures like “Redacted”, congratulations on exercising your hard earned freedom of expression. Exercising it on the backs of those you so cavalierly libel and slander. Exercising it by indirectly encouraging those we fight on the battlefield by showing an America divided. By making them believe that if they hold out for another day another week, another month we will quit the field and they will win…because they view us as weak and you Mr. De Palma (and your ilk) are part of the reason for that.

The first amendment may guarantee your right to say whatever you would like, but it certainly doesn’t make what you say correct, worthy or necessary.
