‘17 Again’ … again

‘17 Again’ … again

17-again

Hollywood isn’t content cranking out an endless supply of remakes and sequels. Now, they’re reaching back to comedy themes exhausted in the ’80s.

Remember “Big,” “Like Father, Like Son” and “Vice Versa?”

Now, we get “17 Again,” the new Zac Efron comedy about a middle aged man (Matthew Perry) who becomes 17 … again.

So what can we expect next from the imagination starved movie industy?

  • “Deep Armageddon Impact” – If Hollywood can release two killer asteroid movies in 1998, why not combine the two for a wicked remake/reboot? And let’s get Shia LaBeouf to star!
  • “Candyman vs. Pumpkinhead” – If Freddy and Jason can have at it, why not the stars of two lesser known horror franchises? The winner can take on Chucky …
  • “Twins 2.0″ – Vin Diesel. Mini Me. The possibilities are endless.

LOL! Oh dear god, I hope I never see any of these titles at the cinema.

In my mind, this boils down to a lack of good scripts. I think Hollywood has either run out of good writers or has lost the ability to find good writers. Either way, it’s not good, no good at all.

And by the way, your post is light hearted, but this is a serious problem for those of us who love the movies. I want good writing!!!

I want good writing, too. Movie fans today have to hunt down good material. Case in point: Just watched a new horror film called “The Burrowers.” It’s not a classic, but it’s a smart mashup of western and horror flicks. Beautiful cinematography, and it felt very … fresh.

Will be writing more about it soon … and, of course, it went straight to DVD. What a shame.
