I think that kind of emotional explosion in most other industries would have been cause for suspension, a fine … some sort of penalty. But actors are ‘creative’ types so they get a pass.

I think many people use their creativity in their respective fields, but they don’t have access to that ‘get out of jail’ card.

I used to one of Mr. Bale’s biggest fans. I think he is an incredibly talented actor + sexy to boot. But after hearing his rant I was so turned off by his bad behavior I completely lost interest in the new ‘terminator’movie. I would have been 1st in line if not for the rant. I don’t care what the problem was. To be that vicious, for that long, when you are lucky enough to be where you are in life, along w/ movie making being a team sport, is disgusting. there is no excuse for that kind of behavoir…ever. I think his apology was heavy back peddling for something that he probably would not have thought twice about if not for its public release. I think the ‘terminator’ weak opening is a direct result of Bales diva like antics + frankly I am glad. yes, hollywood is full of insanity over such nonsense as m&m placement and actor freakouts… but I excepted more from Bale!

The Newsweek debacle unraveling as I type will be a wonderful case study down the road as to how ‘not’ to revamp an organization.

Raise prices. Raise subscriber prices. Lean hard left … and then deny, deny deny bias.

EW, for all its flaws, is a highly readable mag that gives you a little of everything to stay in touch with pop culture. That it’s struggling is a sign that all mags could be in trouble.

Considering EW could give two s&%$* if George Clooney was freebasing the ground bodies of orphans, I hesitate in accepting its authority on someone being pissed-off for five minutes.

I work in newspapers, which is like being in the bottom cabin on the Titanic, waiting for a life boat. But I don’t sense near the desperation employed by magazines. EW tries to keep alive a six-month-old Internet story? I get pelted weekly with e-mails from The Atlantic begging me back at around $12 a year. Newsweek just turned into a bathroom version of Huffington Post. Yet another Sports Illustrated re-design. I’m waiting for someone to try actual journalism.

There is no excuse for being an a-hole. That said, I think Bale takes his craft very seriously. Or maybe he just hadn’t gotten enough sleep. Either way, it’s not a real story… but by the number of responses here (including mine), maybe it is.

I think it was not something anyone would expect from Bale, which made it more interesting to the public. If Russell Crowe had delivered this rant, it would have been foder for The Soup for weeks, but no one would have been very surprised.

It won’t affect the movie box office either way. But if he had been chewing out a kid or, and I knowthis is going to sound sexist, or a woman I think there might have been some serious blowback.

Another reason I think people, or at least me, cut Bale some slack is in the end this was about the work, doing a good job and not about the wrong color of M&M’s in his trailer.

I dont think it should hurt him one bit. I respect somebody who can give an asschewing for an extended period of time. That’s stamina! He’d have made a great chief petty officer in the navy.

The good part about it is he seemed humbled by it and apologized. But it should never have been made public in the first place. Everybody needs their butt chewed now and again, and usually the person doing it, is only doing it for the benefit of the person who screwed up.–regardless of who else hears.

The only way he can get clear of this is to throw a phone at a hotel clerk, or get arrested with a transvestite prostitue in his sports car.

Otherwise, looking forward to the movie.

He wasn’t screaming because there were brown M&Ms in the bowl, he lost it because a cinematographer broke all the accepted rules and puttered around in sight distracting the actors. The more fantastic the story, the more difficult it is for the actors to concentrate on who they are and what they’re doing. I’m looking forward to the movie.

Stars can behave pretty badly these days … and this seemed like one of the more minor offenses.

EW recently wasted a whole interview with Shia LaBeouf talking about his hand injury. Great reporting.
