Bravo to Starz for celebrating the actors who don’t “open” movies or appear in the pages of US Weekly.
They just make the films we see better.
“The Face is Familiar,” debuting at 10 p.m. tomorrow (June 9) on Starz, talks to the actors and actresses who flesh out the character roles in today’s films.
Think Luis Guzman, Joan Cusack and William Sanderson – who I’ll be speaking to Wednesday for a piece slated for Big Hollywood.
Note: If you want to see a rip-roaring comic performance by Miss Cusack, check out the sleeper comedy “The Last Shot.”

I always thought a great concept for a talk show would be having ONLY guests who were supporting cast members. Fill some of the audience with film geeks and have at it. Include a contest where audience members try to rattle off all the movies they’ve seen this person in.
Many of these actors star in indie projects that nobody ever sees, and what a great way to promote those movies as well.
Those actors are probably alot more down to earth as well, having to scrape for roles more often than the A-listers.
Quick – someone steal that idea. It’s great … you’d get meatier interviews, too.
I bet as our pop culture gets narrower — they have a tennis channel! … we’ll have a better chance of seeing a show like this.
