It's a risky strategy .... Once was a huge summer hit by indie standards, as was Little Miss Sunshine. It does seem like a happy accident that the movie was released at the same time as the election controversy, and I hope that gives it an attention boost. Nevertheless, the release date was picked out months ago, and there's no way the filmmakers could have known that this controversy would be in the news when the movie was released. So it makes me wonder why they didn't choose to release it in the fall instead. It would have a better shot at getting some awards, and at luring the fall "art-house crowd", as opposed to this weekend, when I fear it will be completely swallowed up at the box office by its competition.
