Selling ‘Heart’ on ‘The Soup’

What in the world was comic actress turned filmmaker Charlyne Yi doing on “The Soup” over the weekend?

Pitching her new movie, of course.

Yi, who had a tiny but funny role in “Knocked Up,” created a quasi-documentary called “Paper Heart” which opens Aug. 7. The story follows her attempts to document romantic relationships, and she uses her own romance with actor Michael Cera – they’ve since split – to do just that.

It’s hardly summer movie catnip – no big stars, car crashes or robots – so Yi apparently decided to do a funny appearance on E!’s popular “Soup” program to hawk her film.

She even referred to the so-called indignity of appearing on the notoriously low-brow show. But it’s a safe bet far more people know about her project today than they did a week ago.
