This story reminds me of my older climbing days. My friends and I would consider climbing the bigger peaks in faraway places. We would read all the climbing periodicals we could get our hands on. Two things concluded my reasoning to stop thinking about climbing the 7000m+ peaks of the world. Dangers of high altitude sickness and cultures who don't want you climbing near their "house".

There aren't many published ( I haven't looked since '98) but enough stories about kidnappings of climbers who eventually are either released but tortured or disappear altogether. There are some journalists/climbers who dare go back to research the story and get too close. Fascinating to read about but makes me wonder about their sanity. There are many reasons to climb but there are enough dangers involved in just the technical aspect. Why go near the "hornet's nest" in hopes of not bothering them?

Good interview. I am going to check this movie out.

Thanks, K. I met Chris for an interview a while back in connection with his movie. It's really quite good ... hope more people will check it out. And he's a very nice fellow.

Another good interview, WWTW. Timely with a movie tie in. I shall have to find that movie now.
