Beware the Wiki spoilers …

Beware the Wiki spoilers …

The mostly accurate Wikipedia.com site is a handy resource – especially for film lovers.

But read with caution. Many Wiki movie pages offer fully detailed plot descriptions – complete with the endings.

A friend told me he read the description of the new horror film “Orphan,” and the wiki account included the twist ending.

So if you’re looking to research an old movie, have at it. But any wiki page detailing a new film might give you more information than you want.

Well pointed out, Christian. I find that even the synopsis you can find on IMDb can sometimes have spoilers too, and as a film critic, I know that by the time you’re 30min into a film, you’ve lost the ability to write about the plot twists and story development so you don’t give things away to the audience.

That’s why I’m a bit upset with Entertainment Weekly, actually: this week’s cover is “Insider Tips and Preview of District 9″. But I don’t want to read about the story twists, I want to just see the movie and let the director take me on the path he plans. Ah well, at least they’ve labeled it such that I can easily skip those pages…

Too many critics delight in giving away key plot points in their reviews, Dave, with nary a “spoiler alert” to guide us. A shame …. the twists and turns of a movie are precious and can never be restored once you know where the path leads.
