Not one but two upcoming movies hope to shame the public for ignoring the perils of climate change.
“The Age of Stupid” is a mockumentary/fiction mashup following a man living in the year 2055 who looks back, shaking his head ruefully as The Greaseman would say, over humanity’s inaction regarding global warming.
“The Meaning of the 21st Century,” narrated by Oscar-winner Michael Douglas, focuses on what the public’s failure to act today – and over the next 20 years – will mean to the Earth down the very short road.
Written and directed by James T. Martin, “Century” doesn’t just include climate change information but expands the scope to include energy and other modern concerns.
“Our actions, or failure to act, will determine the fate of the earth,” Douglas declares in the trailer.
So go see these films … or else!

See these films or what? Maybe Michael Douglas is going to take his limo to his private jet and fly to one of his 5,000 square foot vacation homes and hold his breath until we see his movie. I’ll believe that global warming is some sort of threat when these phony’s actually change their life style. Seriously, wouldn’t you cease living in your mansions, cut back on your fleet of cars or Gulf Stream jets if you really thought that by doing so you would stop the destruction of the entire planet? If you really believed that, you’d stop – right? Well until they do; top off the tank of my SUV, fire up the gas grill and crank up the air conditioning. Summers almost over and I got some BTU’s to burn.
If you really believed that, you’d stop – right?
Yep. AND you’d be fighting tooth and nail to convert the country to nuclear power ASAP.
The “end of the world is near!” mentality isn’t new in Hollywood. Stanley Kubrick was quoted as saying that he was positive that there would be a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. He wasn’t the only one. The “narrative” is so much more exciting when the stakes are the existence of the world and not how much more you’ll have to pay your gardener if they close the borders.
Some people aren’t happy unless their panicking.
At the behest of our outdoors writer, I was going to pick up “An Inconvenient Truth” and witness all the Armageddon first hand. Wisely, I went online and did some research. Gore’s NASA climate models, which make up the central thesis of his film, were highly flawed and needed correction after the film came out. Kind of describes Gore post-politics.
JFN … did you see the McClatchy piece (about a week old) that acknowledged the earth hasn’t been warming over the last decade. What are we getting all crazy about if the globe isn’t warming??
Has Gore ever answered to this? Or the fact that the British courts deemed some of the info in the film flat out wrong?
I would have loved to see the pitch for these…
Pitcher: Hey I know! Let’s make a movie where we lecture the audience for an hour and a half straight!
Pitchee: Get the audience to PAY US for lecturing them? … Brilliant! Fast track this one!
Ctoto, didn’t catch the McClatchy piece, but I will note that Gore suspiciously stopped debating and opening himself to press inquiries once the NASA climate models were shown to be faulty.
And since when did being wrong ever stop a liberal?
Gore does the two step:
I won’t debate anyone
Anyone I would debate is in the pocket of Big (fill in the blank) anyway.
Meanwhile, he’s getting richer off carbon offsets …
Global Warming has been proven wrong a 100 times over. Wake up sheeps, and use you brain for once.
You almost want to pollute more just to see what happens.
If they really want to help the environment, make some arguments that have to do with what’s right in front of people. Talk about clearing the air in that Los Angeles, which is usually cloudy not because of forrest fires and cleaning the beaches. This is stuff people see right in front of them and connects them to what is really going on. I can’t say about the future, the weather man says it’s going to rain on friday and it turns out to be sunny. What are you going to do?
Myself, I’m still waiting to see what makes Al and Tipper’s electrical usage so high. The mind boggles at the possibilities.
As for pollution in LA and such, the last smog alert day in Los Angeles was in 1997. The unsung fact of the environmental movement is that it succeeded. And because of how Americans buy cars (at any given time, 90% of the cars on US roads are less than 10 years old) it’s only going to get better.
Rather than embrace their success, they turn to “anthropogenic catastrophic global climate change.” It keeps them employed. As JohnFN said, they thrive on panic.
Wasn’t it global warming a year ago? Now, it’s climate change. Hmmm.
Schweeeeeeeeet Greaseman reference! Another fan of the ditty-boppin’ daddy here.
FYI cftoto, the person responsible for introducing the term ‘climate change’ to the vocab was Frank Luntz, a Bush advisor because it was considering less threatening than ‘global warming’. It had nothing to do with any Green movement. Also, even thought 1998 has not been surpassed as the warmest year the average temperature has CONTINUED TO RISE as any graph will show you.
But hey, why let facts get in the way of a good rant.
I don’t care if Mickey Mouse coined the ‘climate change’ term … it’s been adopted by those trying to change policy based on numbers which appear inflated. And if we’ve been told its been getting hotter and hotter to an alarming level … and it hasn’t been, well then what else is untrue?
phony phony phony liberals. when they open their mouths they emit far more pollution then yould find in a chinese river.
When Hollywood stars like Michael Douglas, et al, walk away from their own wasteful and opulent lifestyles then I’ll know they really believe what they’re selling
1. Destroy all your cars. Now. Don’t sell them. Destroy them. They are evil.
2. Disconnect your house from the grid. Now. Just pull the plug. We didn’t have electricity 100 years ago. You don’t need it now. Put your beliefs in action. Pull the plug.
3. Turn off your natural gas. Don’t burn anything.
4. Stop breathing. CO2 is bad. With every breath you are killing the planet. Never mind that plants need the CO2. They’ll get along without us fine.
5. Continue aborting any children you conceive. People are bad. Have fewer of them.
6. Stop all medical research. Life should simply end. Disease is therefore good and should not be fought. Close all hospitals now. Or at least pull the electrical power from them.
Or all this human caused global warming / climate change is simply the scam that it is.
Let me explain this to you as if you WERE Mickey Mouse cftoto (which is not a big stretch of the imagination believe me). Say a bowler’s average score was 200 and he then got 250. His next ten scores were all 210-230. Just because he hasn’t passed his highest score doesn’t mean his ave hasn’t continued to rise. That is pretty much the global temp story since 1998.
But I’m sure in your mind black will continue to be white.
I can’t go see these films because that would require me to drive my car, therefore emiting terrible toxins into the atmosphere and consuming me wit guilt.
…and it’s just too damn far to walk.
Ease up ppl, it’s just the end of the world. No biggie.
byo1965 – black and white and wrong all over.
Here’s McClatchy, that notoriously right wing news service –
According to data from the National Space Science and Technology Center in Huntsville, Ala., the global high temperature in 1998 was 0.76 degrees Celsius (1.37 degrees Fahrenheit) above the average for the previous 20 years.
So far this year, the high has been 0.42 degrees Celsius (0.76 degrees Fahrenheit), above the 20-year average, clearly cooler than before.
Wow, the earth’s got a fever …
Later on, the story reveals this nugget:
John Christy, the director of the Earth System Science Center at the University of Alabama in Huntsville:
“Our ignorance of the climate system is still enormous, and our policy makers need to know that . . . We really don’t know much about what causes multi-year changes like this.”
Take that, combined with the fact that weathermen can’t accurately predict if the sun will shine tomorrow, and you have the real picture.
You’re a funny gal, Heidi.
If anyone is interested in good de-programming material for all this eco-propaganda, I’d recommend a British documentary called The Great Global Warming Swindle (2007), which does an excellent job of debunking Gore’s theories.
