Think all movie trailers are created equal.
The folks behind the new horror film “Paranormal Activity” beg to differ.
The film, out Sept. 25 in limited markets, just posted a trailer which is part sneak peek, part glimpse at a movie audience watching the movie in question.
How very meta.
It’s like taking the “Blair Witch” single-cam techniques and fusing it with those annoying commercials where people say how great a movie is after leaving the theater.
Not that any rational soul would take those testimonials to heart.
The “Paranormal” marketing effort is also unique for the quotes used in the ad. They’re not quoting established, legacy media folks, but comments from bloody-digusting.com and Dread Central.
Could be the future of horror film marketing – highly selected screenings aimed at horror hounds. But if the film is truly good – and scary – why bother with such specific efforts?
Maybe it’s a way to cut through the movie theater clutter. The film has earned nice buzz from its festival circuit appearances, according to Anne Thompson.
Might be worth a look. Couldn’t be worse than “The Uninvited,” right?

I’d probably rather just watch an episode of Ghost Hunters. Could be interesting though…
