Free ‘Meat’ at FEARnet.com

midnight meat train

You don’t have to go to the video store or tweak your Netflix queue to find a quality horror movie this time of year.

The Clive Barker-based movie “The Midnight Meat Train” is now available for free viewing over at FEARnet.com.

The site routinely showcases free streaming movies, but some of them are not exactly familiar titles.

“Meat” is different.

The film got treated shabbily during a brief theatrical release last year, but packs plenty of chills right up to its harrowing finale. Co-star Vinnie Jones is terrific as the hammer-wielding villain, and we get to see Bradley Cooper in a fine pre-”Hangover” lead performance.

But be warned. This “Train” is brutal – punishing, unrelenting and full of gore. And you’ll have to punch in your birth date to gain access to the R-rated film.

I really liked the Clive Barker short story on which the film was based. The first two-thirds of the movie was very good, as these things go. (Loved Ted Raimi’s cameo.) But the climax introduced a cliched complication that even the grim resolution couldn’t redeem. I wouldn’t mind catching it again for free, though.

Can’t disagree, Ben … the ending is dark, which I liked, but also quite silly. But as a free flick … pretty darn worthy

Yeah I remember catching this one On Demand a while back. I guess it was all right. Poor Ted Raimi. SEAQUEST DSV FOREVER!

But hey guys did you notice the ads for SAW part… whatever? Where exactly is all of that “hopeful” horror we were promised, right?

Granted I suppose it’s still a little too early for Obama to revolutionize the film industry or more specifically the horror industry. I’ll stay tuned.

Regs … horror movies routinely add stinging social commentary into the mix during GOP admins … but they’re less inclined to do so during Dem admins … don’t hold your breath for someone like George A. Romero to tweak Obama any time soon.
