Randy Quaid’s sad decline

quaid-randy

Few actors worked as hard, or as effectively, as character actor extraordinaire Randy Quaid in the ’80s and ’90s.

That was then, but things are quite different now.

The actor’s name has been associated with more bizarre headlines than film roles of late, and now he and his wife have been popped for stiffing a hotel out of a pretty big tab.

He’ll always be Cousin Eddie to me from the “Vacation” films.

In recent years he got booted from a Broadway show and sparred with the producers of his film “Brokeback Mountain.”

Twenty six of the actors in the “Lone Star Love” lodged a complaint against Quaid before he was booted from the show, according to the news report.

What a shame to see a terrific, versatile actor let his demons get the better of him.

Hunch one shoulder, hold a beer can, and you’ve created one of the most iconic characters of the 1980s. Brilliant!

I don’t if he has “demons” or not. Fame and money most likely intensify what was already bubbling underneath. Tom Hanks — nice guy. Randy Quaid weird and rude. Fame doesn’t give or take those away. It is sad though it does help explain “Parents” to me.

C’mon, I really liked “Parents!”

Geez, you’d think his role in “The Last Detail” would have scared him straight.
