New trailer cliche – the fast fadeout

Movies cliches aren’t exclusive to the actual films themselves. Movie trailers are often chock full of been there, seen that moments.

Lately, that means action and horror trailers where the film fades to black – quickly – and then snaps back into life over and again in order to maximize the shock.

And a loud musical note or three accompanies each manufactured shock.

Just watch the trailer for the new “Nightmare on Elm Street” remake – a textbook example, to be sure.

It’s a super easy way to goose up the audience’s adrenline, but by now the technique is so darn tired all it does is give me a mild headache.

Using my best deep, resonant voice:
In a world filled with movie trailer cliches, one man sets out to make a difference.

Agree. The sudden slamming noise over and over trailer is getting harder to take . Just one more annoyance in going to the movies. It’s difficult to exceed the stultifying lack of creativity at the movies these days, but the trailers manage it in spades.
