Great moments in lousy reporting – The Whoopi edition

goldberg

The headline on The Drudge Report and other blogs about Whoopi Goldberg’s recent foot-in-mouth quote sounds intriguing.

The Telegraph newspaper proclaims Goldberg is taking serious heat for her comments on on ABC’s “The View” that director Roman Polanski didn’t commit “rape rape” on that 13-year-old girl years ago.

Is Goldberg’s comment more stupid or outrageous? Tough call, right?

But the British paper doesn’t bother to back up its claim. Not even a little.

One final thought – any women’s groups “outraged-outraged” by Goldberg’s comments? I sure hope so.

Hey Whoopi, yes it was “rape-rape.” There are no f’ing degrees of rape. It’s a binary choice. You either commit rape or you don’t. Period.

If someone can look at the drugging and rape of a 13-year old by an adult and seriously conclude, “eh, that was sort of a bad thing but not really,” I think it’s safe to say that moral relativism has gotten out of hand in our society.

It’s funny. Goldberg’s politics clash sharply with mine, but she occasionally makes statements that transcend ideology and really make sense.

She’s a freer thinker than most celebs.

Suffice to say this isn’t a glowing example of just that. This comment is atrocious … did she get lambasted for it on The View either then or recently?

So I guess “slavery-slavery” is OK when the plantation owners treated their property with dignity huh?

Can someone infect people like Whoopi and Joy Behar with H1N1 please…the idiocy of these people is sucking up valuable oxygen.

I met Behar as a reporter years ago .. it was part of a big press event and a bunch of major stars were very gracious in talking to reporters. Not Behar. She was foul to us that day … something I never forgot.

Christian – On a related subject, is there anyone more clueless than Patrick Goldstein at the LA Times? Can’t be too many for my money. His latest incomprehensible posting is here: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/the_big_picture/2009/09/hollywood-liberals-under-fire-the-polanski-debate-gets-political.html “Hollywood Liberals Under Fire: The Polanski Debate gets Political.”

Patrick seems like a nice fellow … but he’s so far off the mark on his Polanski musings it’s hard to wrap your head around it
