Best. Show. Ever?

Best. Show. Ever?

Steven Seagal

Watching movies at the theater these days means getting stuck with TV show advertisements.

Have they no shame?

But that marketing excess paid off in spades for me over the weekend. I saw a preview of a new A&E reality series that cannot be missed.

“Steven Seagal: Lawman.”

Need I say more?

OK, here goes. Seagal is deputized and teams up with local law enforcement to catch the bad guys. In between, the now heavyset action icon teaches his fellow officers a few tricks to tame the bad guys.

Appointment television is back!

Judging by his girth, am I to assume most of the show is shot at Dunkin’ Donuts?

I never really appreciated Seagal until I started practicing judo and aiki-jiujitsu. My sensei will occasionally refer to some move or other in a Seagal movie to help us understand what we’re supposed to be doing if we’re doing it right. My instructor, by the way, is a stocky ex-Green Beret. I’ll be tuning into this show, because my guess is there will be a fair bit of practical self-defense advice interspersed amidst the foot chases and tense conversations with drunkards and wife-beating idiots.

What I love about the clip is how the cops talk up Seagal as if he just walked off the set of “Above the Law.” Deference, indeed.
