Nearly lost in the razzle, dazzle and moonwalking in “Michael Jackson’s This is It” is the late singer’s call to save the planet.
Yes, the King of Excess with his Neverland ranch and wild spending sprees cared deeply about Mother Earth.
Late in the new film Jackson talks about his love of nature and how we’re abusing it to the point of no return.
We have only four years to save the Earth, he says at one point. Why did Jackson wait so long to warn us?
It’s hard to take what Jackson says about important subjects seriously given his child-like demeanor and curious behavior away from the spotlight.
The film strains to paint Jackson in a flattering light, and the movie mostly does just that.
Can’t imagine his hardcore fans not loving this cinematic tribute.
But including his content-free sermonizing on Mother Earth doesn’t do him – or his legacy – any favors.

“Why did Jackson take so long to warn us?” I’m guessing he was too busy gassing himself to get to that point until recently…
