The Academy Award telecast next year will have a split personality.
The Wrap is reporting that hosting duties will fall to two men – Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin.
One is a dynamic funnyman known for his revolutionary stand up material. The other is a gifted actor and supporting comic player who has insulted half the country with his coarse political musings.
Why not let Martin do the honors himself?
The split format appears more like a gimmick than anything else, kind of like choosing 10 films for Best Picture and not just five.
Baldwin can bring the funny. His work on “Saturday Night Live” and a bevy of feature films proves it. But he’s not the obvious choice for a stand-up style slot.
And if Martin goes political it’ll be seen as a comic opportunity, nothing more. For Baldwin, any joke tweaking the Right will inflame a good chunk of the viewing audience and, quite possibly, make more than a few people turn the dial.
The Academy Awards telecast will be shown on ABC March 7, 2010.

I think this is a great combo to host the Oscars together, unfortunately I haven’t watched an Awards show in at least 5 years.
I became Steve Martin’s fan when I was in high school. Love his movies. Can’t wait to see oscars, even if that means that I;ll have to stay awake till 3am
Martin has hosted the Oscars twice before, in 2000 and 2002, and he happens to be my personal favorite host. In fact, he’s one of my personal favorite entertainers, period. The man is a straight-up genius, the terrible movies he’s made are amazing.
I’m very happy to learn that Steve Martin will host the Oscars again as I thought he was the best host in years, funny without being arrogant and condescending. I don’t see why they need to add Alec Baldwin to the show. I guess I’ll be busy with the mute button.
Damn, why they gotta go and waste a good white-boy host, Martin, like that?!?!
