Dawn of the movie monsters

Vampires, at least ones with pale skin and sky-high ‘dos, currently rule the cineplex.

Come February, “The Wolfman” reboot hopes to join the monster mayhem.

But have you ever wondered where some famous movie monsters got their start?

The bulk of the classic movie monsters – think Frankenstein, the Wolfman and Dracula – hail from Universal Studios. And now Universal has a new web site where horror fans can revisit the past of their favorite creatures.

The site, part of “The Wolf Man’s” official web presence, documents how the studio built up its film monster archives starting back in 1923.

That’s cool! I’m glad they’re doing that. Especially since it was Dracula and Frankentstein that saved the studio. It was on the verge of bankruptcy when it produced the two films which brought in so much money the studio was able to stay afloat.

On a side note, I wish they would give the films restorations like Warner Bros. has done with a lot of the classic films in its library. I know its expensive but I hope it’s something they would consider.
