Word trickled out last week that Dennis Hopper, the star of “Easy Rider” and other classic films, is losing his battle with prostate cancer.
The 73-year-old actor isn’t going without a fight, but that fight involves his current squeeze, Victoria Duffy.
The New York Post reports he’s trying to finalize a divorce from Duffy, his fifth wife.
US Magazine says the actor’s health is indeed fragile at this point, but it doesn’t make it sound as hopeless as the Post reportage.
It’s ugly stuff, and while this site won’t get into any more details of the divorce I will send my prayers to Hopper. He’s a singular film presence who will be missed if the cancer overtakes him.

Terrible news. Hopper is the least appreciated actor from his generation, much of which is due to his switch in political identity. Good luck, Dennis.
I read somewhere that for four decades in a row, Hopper appeared in the most critically-acclaimed film of the year: Rebel Without a Cause in the ’50s, Easy Rider in the ’60s, Apocalypse Now in the ’70s, and Blue Velvet in the ’80s. The relative quality of those films can certainly be debated, but it’s still an interesting fact.
He is a great talent, and I wish him all the best in his fight against this illness.
