Actor Ian McShane distinctly recalls working with Woody Allen on the set of their movie “Scoop.”

“I didn’t even hear him say ‘action,’” McShane tells WWTW. “That’s Woody. He takes you unawares. I like that.”

McShane, currently starring in “44 Inch Chest,” describes an Allen movie set as “relaxed.”

“He likes you to play around with things [on set],” he says.

So what did McShane think of “Scoop,” his first Allen project?

It’s “OK,” he says bluntly, but it isn’t his favorite recent film from the director of “Annie Hall” and “Sleeper.”

“I love ‘[Vicky Cristina] Barcelona,’” he says. “It’s a return to form.”

Check out WWTW’s two-part interview with McShane over at Movies in Toto.
