Sorry for the harsh response, Mycroft. I should probably have assumed that your comment was meant sarcastically, but like you said, the tone didn’t come through very well. And I’ve known too many people (especially on the ‘net) who take their movie opinions way too seriously.

And at the risk of getting banned from this site, I actually thought Hudson Hawk was pretty funny, in a campy sort of way. Bruce Willis was surprisingly annoying in it, but the talented supporting cast made the jokes work.

One thing I’ve learned about email and comment boards — tone is almost always lost! The inflections of humor can be easily lost in cyberspace. I figured that was the case with your comments. Thanks for checking out the site … and I’m really psyched you ended up seeing “The Descent.”

I had intended my comment to be a light-hearted jest, but after seeing JimmyC’s comment, I read it again and it was harsh with no sign of intended humor.
I enjoy your site very much and respect your reviews. In fact, I watched Descent based on your recommendation and it was indeed an excellent film.
Thanks for providing the kind defense. To be certain, Stealth is not in the same league of awful as Hudson Hawk. The chemistry between Danny Aiello and Bruce Willis was good, but the rest of that movie was wretched. And I did sit through to the bitter end.

In Mycroft’s defense … some movies really stick in the craw more than others. I remember as a teen walking out of “Hudson Hawk” as grumpy as I’ve ever been after seeing a movie.

Then I heard my pals start talking about how much they liked it … I looked at them and shouted, “you gotta be a moron to like that movie …”

We didn’t talk much on the ride home … and in retrospect I should have been more civil … but sometimes you gotta just say what needs to be said.

Apparently in Mycroft’s world, if you disagree with him on one movie, that’s enough to make him “seriously reevaluate your movie judgement”. That’s interesting, because in the world I live in, I disagree with people about movies all the time, but it doesn’t make me think any less of them.

Talk about needing to lighten up.
