To paraphrase Casey Kasem, “comin’ in at no. 6 is our lil’ friend, ‘Scarface.’”
Why is a movie that’s 27 years old be competing with new releases like “Couples Retreat” and “Law Abiding Citizen” for top sales honors?
The film’s cult following beggars belief. Check out any film memorabilia or poster store and you’ll find countless pictures of Al Pacino with a very smug look on his face playing Tony Montana.
Scarface Nation refuses to die.
The film’s mix of bravado, bold action and entrepreneurial zeal continue to captivate film fans. The hip hop community’s embrace of the character also has helped keep the film alive in the minds of many fans.
The DVD sales charts will find new titles battling for supremacy in the weeks – and months – to come. But who would bet against “Scarface” reappearing now and again to give the new kids on the block company?

They’ll likely make a new version of the movie for DVD soon … or a Blu-ray edition if one doesn’t already exist.
This will be one of the squarest things I’ve ever said, but I’ve always found the “Scarface” worship a little troubling, because nearly without exception the fascinating is based aroun a view of Tony Montana as a badass rebel. You know, instead of as a murderous drug kingpin. Sort of like “The Catcher in the Rye” for inner-city kids and middle class folks that sometimes like to pretend they came from the ghetto.
