Looks like Indiana Jones isn’t ready to set his trusty bullwhip aside.
Franchise star Harrison Ford reports the “germ” of an idea for a fifth “Indiana Jones” film has taken root within George Lucas’s formerly fertile brain.
The “Jones” creation process is a lengthy one, so cue up the jokes about the 67-year-old Ford fighting Communists in between “Matlock” viewings.
Har har.
Here’s the scariest quote from a Moviefone.com story sharing the news:
The long-awaited ‘Crystal Skull’ met with tepid enthusiasm or disillusioned disappointment among critics and fans, but it grossed $787 million worldwide.
The bigger issue comes down to content. Let’s face it. “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” will likely age as poorly as “The Phantom Menace,” another eagerly awaited film given undue love during its theatrical release.
But was “Skull” any less coherent than “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” or “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra?”
Both movies printed money, period.
What’s baffling about “Skull” is that it must have inspired people to watch it a second or third time to generate those figures.
To paraphrase Jerry Seinfeld, “who are these people?”
They’re the same people Hollywood targets when drafting up unnecessary sequels to beloved films.

NOOOOOOooooooooooo!!
This may be heresy but has Spielberg jumped the shark?
“Nuked the fridge” may be more apropos…
it grossed $787 million worldwide
THIS is not only the real bigger issue, it is the ONLY issue.
Barnum’s alleged observation on gullibility holds true nearly as an aphorism today; for each of us astute WWTW cineastes, there are 999 other mass consumers buying tickets to these films who care not at all about content, quality, or legacy. It appears that Lucas and Ford (and perhaps Spielberg, sadly) have become a part of this demographic.
