That’s the most succinct, and accurate, assessment of the current rom-com malaise I’ve ever read.

I think the last romantic comedy I truly enjoyed was “Shakespeare in Love” and that was released over ten years ago. Where are the modern day versions of Preston Sturges and Ernst Lubitsch?

I think Judd Apatow helped revive the screen comedy, and we need a similar visionary to bring the rom-com back to life.

Maybe the folks who wrote “(500) Days of Summer” will emerge …
