Hands-on author to write/direct own book adaptation

Authors often get frazzled when they see their work transferred to the big screen.

But Peter Hedges will have only himself to blame if the film adaptation of his book “The Heights” doesn’t live up to the source material.

Hedges will write the screenplay, produce and direct the film for Focus Features, it was announced today.

Hedges, who previously wrote the screenplay for the brilliant dramedy “About a Boy,” also wrote and directed “Dan in Real Life” as well as “Pieces of April.”

“The Heights” follows a happy Brooklyn couple whose life changes when an attractive, well to do family moves in on their block.
