Glad you dug it, Mycroft. It's certainly light years better than films which enjoyed a major theatrical release like the "Elm St." remake and the awful "My Soul to Take."

Just saw it on NetFlix based on your recommendation and I agree with everything that you wrote.
Other than the overuse of blood and the ick factor, I found the movie extremely well done until the third act when the surprise character shows up.
The only other complaint I have is against both movies.
How do creatures that rely on echolocation to move about manage to get within arm's reach of our heros without being noticed?
Are there really so many of them in the miles of unexplored caverns that our heros just happen to walk past them time after time?

"The Descent's" cred in the horror realm is sky high ... why not let the sequel hits a few hundred theaters? Seems a sure thing to make $20-plus million in a theatrical run.

"Just don’t hold its direct-to-DVD path against it."

I think it came a surprise to most that it ended up that way, since it wasn't intended as such. I'm surprised that it didn't even get a Blu-ray release. Talk about dumping a film into the market. Good to hear that it isn't the disaster that they are treating it as.
